Course

Course Description

Run - 3.5 miles
The first run begins near the transition area with .5 mile of paved road that leads to the entrance of the trail run. Once there you have another 1.5 miles on a wide open trail that gradually climbs about 150 feet in elevation.  At mile 2 you connect to a narrower trail that takes you on a 1.5 mile downhill trail run back to the transition area.

Road Bike - 21 Miles
The 21 mile road bike course is the exact same paved bike course we have always used, however, it will now start at a different location along the route.  After leaving transition you will exit the park and turn left onto McDowell Mountain Raod where the first nine miles (to Rio Verde and back) are rolling hills through the beautiful sonoran desert.  At mile 9 you re-enter the park and begin a 6 mile climp to the end of the park (and through the old transition area).  Then it's all down hill for the last 6 miles and back into the transition area.

Off-Road / Mountain Bike Duathlon - 15 Miles
If you are doing the off-road duathlon, you will exit the transition area and head out on the park's extensive competitive tracks where we have designed a brand new 15 mile mountain bike course that will be fun, yet challanging. Near the end of the mountain bike course you will merge onto McDowell Mountain Park Road (inside the park) for a fast .5 decent back to the transition area.

Run 3.0 Miles
The second run will take you out on the "Long Loop" trail and onto a scenic rolling trail run.  At mile 1.5 you leave the "Long Loop" and follow a service road for the final 1.5 miles to the finish line.

Kids 1-Mile Fun Run
New for 2011, the Kids 1-Mile Fun Run will take place during the regular duathlon so there will plenty of spectators to cheer the kids on during their race.
